Supporters, including Nigerian youths and civil society organisations, on Wednesday gathered at the Abuja office of former President Goodluck Jonathan, calling on him to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

The protesters flooded parts of the capital, chanting slogans and displaying placards with messages such as, “GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!” and “GEJ, Nigerian youths break the medicine wey dem do you.” Another read, “GEJ, if you don’t run, we quench.”

Speaking during the protest, public analyst and former Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Tom Ohikere, revealed that the group waited for hours in hopes of meeting Jonathan, who was unavailable.

“Everywhere that we have visited in the course of our nationwide consultation over a period of six months, the clamor for his return to power to rescue our country has been loud and unmistakable,” he said.

As of the time of reporting, Jonathan has not responded to the calls.
The protest adds to mounting pressure from groups both within Nigeria and in the diaspora urging the former president to join the 2027 race.

The development also comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where party members recently protested at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding a reversal of the delisting of the David Mark-led leadership.

The renewed political activity signals growing momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
