Trump Warns of 50% Tariffs on Countries Supplying Weapons to Iran

David Egbede, April 8, 2026April 8, 2026

US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to countries considering military support for Iran, threatening steep economic penalties.

In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared: “A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions.”

The warning comes amid rising tensions and shortly after Trump announced a temporary ceasefire agreement with Tehran, which includes the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate post, he added that his administration is “talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran,” suggesting ongoing diplomatic and economic negotiations despite the hardline stance.
