ADC Crisis: David Mark Tells Nigerians There’s “No Cause For Alarm”

David Egbede, April 8, 2026

Former Senate President and David Mark on Wednesday sought to calm rising concerns within the African Democratic Congress, reassuring party members and the public that ongoing internal disputes do not threaten the party’s survival.

His comments come at a delicate moment for the ADC, as lingering disagreements and competing claims have sparked uncertainty about the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections.

Mark, who also serves as the party’s national chairman, made the remarks during a church service held in celebration of his 78th birthday.

“On the issue of the ongoing developments within our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), I wish to assure our members and Nigerians at large that there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

He characterised the situation as part of a normal growth phase, suggesting that the party is maturing rather than breaking apart.

“Challenges are a natural part of any growing institution. What is important is our collective resolve to overcome them,” Mark added.

Despite the tensions, he maintained that the party’s foundation remains firm, with leaders and members united in their broader objectives.

“We remain united, determined, and focused on strengthening the party and upholding democratic values,” he said.

Looking beyond the party, Mark linked its stability to the overall strength of Nigeria’s democratic system.

“Let me reiterate that we are fully committed to the survival of democracy and the development of our dear nation, Nigeria,” he said.

He further assured that the party would remain committed to ensuring democratic governance delivers tangible benefits to citizens.

“We will continue to work tirelessly, guided by discipline, integrity, and patriotism, to ensure that our democratic institutions are preserved and that the dividends of democracy reach all our people,” he said.

Reflecting on his milestone birthday, Mark expressed appreciation while affirming his continued dedication to national service.

“At 78, my resolve remains unshaken. I am inspired more than ever to contribute my quota to national unity, peace, and progress,” he said.
