The Oyo State Government has announced that it has paid over N37 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff since Governor Seyi Makinde took office in 2019.

The disclosure was made on Wednesday via the state government’s official Facebook page, where the chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, shared the update during the disbursement of N3 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired staff on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

“The Oyo State Government has paid over N37 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff since Governor Seyi Makinde assumed office in 2019,” the post stated.

According to the statement, the N3 billion was released to retirees under the state and local government pension scheme. Ige added that the payment process has been decentralised across the state’s geopolitical zones to ease the financial burden on pensioners, preventing them from having to travel long distances to collect their entitlements.
