The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that suspected armed bandits killed two civilians and a police officer during separate attacks along the Karadua–Musawa Road in Matazu LGA.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the attackers opened fire on a moving vehicle on Sunday, killing two occupants instantly.

Security operatives, including police, military personnel, community watch corps, and vigilantes, were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call.

“The team swiftly dislodged the assailants and evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Sadiq-Aliyu added that the bandits later regrouped and attempted to attack the Musawa Police Division but were successfully repelled after a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Tragically, one police officer lost his life while defending the station.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, has ordered a full investigation and deployed additional security assets to the area to prevent further attacks.

He also extended condolences to the families of the victims, describing the fallen officer as a hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and support security agencies with credible information as efforts continue to bring the perpetrators to justice.
