The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service in Ariko Village, Kachia LGA of Kaduna State, after troops foiled a terrorist attack.
According to a statement shared on its official X handle, the operation followed a distress call reporting the abduction at an ECWA church.
Troops were immediately deployed and, with guidance from members of the local community, pursued the attackers.
The army said its personnel engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the victims.
“The pressure mounted by the advancing troops forced the terrorists to abandon 31 hostages,” the statement said, noting that one injured victim is currently receiving treatment.
However, five victims were found dead at the scene. The army added that the attackers likely suffered heavy losses, as indicated by blood trails along their escape routes.
“The fleeing terrorists are believed to have sustained significant casualties,” it stated.
Troops have since intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators, while additional personnel have been deployed to reinforce security and prevent further attacks.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining national security, urging citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
