The 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has secured admission into Northwest University, Kano, to pursue a degree in law.
An official admission letter from the university, dated January 12, 2026, and signed by Jafaru Muhammad, Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), confirmed that the institution granted the Emir special admission after he met the criteria for such consideration.
The letter, which was addressed to him at the Gidan Rumfa Palace, stated that Sanusi has been admitted into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Common Law and Shariah under the Faculty of Law. He will begin the programme at Level 200, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session. “With reference to your application for special admission into this University, I write to convey the University’s approval of your admission into Northwest University, Kano after satisfying the University requirements for special consideration,” the letter read.
It added that the admission is subject to compliance with the rules and regulations as contained in the Northwest University Student Handbook. The university further directed the Emir to proceed with his registration by completing all necessary formalities across relevant units, including the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records, the ICT Unit, the Bursary Department, the Faculty and Department, the University Library, and the Student Affairs Division.
