Bauchi Governor Mohammed Signals PDP Exit, Eyes ADC

David Egbede, March 31, 2026

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has indicated he may exit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening internal crises and describing the party as “headless.”

The governor made this known after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former SGF, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House in Bauchi.

“I have pursued all avenues for reconciliation within PDP, but it has not worked,” Mohammed said. “We cannot remain where we are not wanted. ADC appears to be where our political destiny is taking us.”

He disclosed that committees have been set up at both national and state levels to explore political options, including talks with the APC, but emphasized that his focus remains on a platform capable of uniting the opposition ahead of 2027.

Mohammed also took a swipe at the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stating, “We have somebody called Wike who is being used to destroy us. He has already taken over the party, holding all the positions of PDP.”

He added that a final decision would be announced soon after consultations with key stakeholders.

Speaking for the ADC delegation, Babachir Lawal said the party is actively engaging Mohammed as part of efforts to strengthen the opposition.

“Senator David Mark sent us because he knows the battle ahead in 2027 can only succeed if all segments of Nigeria with goodwill unite,” Lawal said. “If we fail, Nigeria may not survive as we know it.

People could be starving, unable to afford medical care, while insurgency spreads from home to home.”

Lawal described the governor as a “dogged fighter,” adding, “When he joins ADC, he will be one of our field commanders.”

He further noted that discussions were “fruitful, friendly, and brotherly,” while expressing confidence that the ADC would be prepared for the 2027 elections.

“His entry into ADC will alarm the current government and could provoke lawlessness in attempts to rig the 2027 elections. But we are confident that with him on board, we will be battle-tested and ready to confront the government, and victory will be ours,” he said.
