Former presidential spokesman, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed concern over the possible impact of Rabiu Kwankwaso’s planned defection on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso, the national leader of the NNPP, is expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as opposition figures continue to realign against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Reacting via his official X handle, Bashir acknowledged that the move could affect the ruling party’s performance, particularly in Kano, but maintained that the situation can still be managed.
He wrote, “Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s defection to the other side may have an impact on our overall performance in Kano. However, this is not insurmountable.
“As long as we keep our house intact and put our affairs in proper order, victory is still very much within our reach”.
