The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed optimism over resolving its lingering internal crisis, declaring that “hope is not lost” as reconciliation efforts gain momentum.
In a press briefing delivered on Wednesday, the party revealed that its Board of Trustees, led by Adolphus Wabara, had set up a high-powered committee to engage estranged members and find lasting solutions to the dispute threatening party unity.
The move follows an advisory by the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, urging parties involved in the suit to pursue reconciliation in order to safeguard the party’s future and ensure smooth participation in upcoming elections.
According to the PDP, the National Working Committee demonstrated goodwill by postponing key meetings and toning down confrontational rhetoric.
However, it expressed concern over what it described as continued “weaponisation of hurtful rhetoric” from opposing factions.
“Leaders on both sides have broken the ice and are exploring various pathways towards a lasting resolution,” the party stated.
The PDP called on its members and supporters nationwide to de-escalate tensions and avoid actions that could derail ongoing peace efforts.
Despite the internal challenges, the party reassured aspirants and supporters of its readiness to participate fully in the forthcoming elections.
“By the grace of God, our party will field candidates for all elective offices,” the statement affirmed.
The party also highlighted sustained public interest, noting that Nigerians continue to register through its e-platform, signaling unwavering support for its political agenda.
Reaffirming its role in Nigeria’s democracy, the PDP described itself as a “legacy party” committed to holding the government accountable and strengthening democratic values.
In a show of internal solidarity, the National Working Committee passed a vote of confidence on Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their leadership during the crisis.
“The PDP is alive and will participate in the forthcoming elections, offering a credible platform for robust political contests,” the party concluded.
