EPL: Foul on Amad Penalty – Bruno Fernandes After Man Utd 2-2 Draw with Bournemouth

David Egbede, March 21, 2026March 21, 2026

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has criticized the officials after teammate Amad Diallo was denied a penalty during Friday night’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Bournemouth.

The Red Devils had expected a spot-kick when Diallo was fouled inside the 18-yard box, but referee Stuart Attwell allowed play to continue.

Earlier, Attwell had awarded a penalty to Manchester United after Matheus Cunha was fouled, which Fernandes successfully converted to give United a 1-0 lead.

Bournemouth quickly equalized through Ryan Christie following Diallo’s challenge, which Fernandes believes should have resulted in a penalty.

United regained the lead via an own goal by James Hill, but the hosts drew level again from the penalty spot after Harry Maguire received a straight red card for a similar incident.

The Premier League Match Centre later clarified that Diallo was not awarded a penalty because the contact was deemed insufficient for a foul.

Speaking after the game, Fernandes expressed his frustration with both the referee’s decision and the VAR review.

“I know it’s difficult for the referee to give two penalties to the same team,” Fernandes said.

“But I don’t understand why VAR doesn’t do anything. I don’t understand why one foul is a penalty, and the other isn’t.

“The foul on Amad is a penalty.”
