The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as Goodnews Iberi, for the kidnapping and murder of a 25-year-old woman, Rita Eleonu, along the Emuoha axis of the East-West Road, Rivers State.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed in a statement on Monday that Iberi, along with accomplices still at large, lured Eleonu into a forest known for criminal activity.
The suspects reportedly contacted the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of N210,000. The family paid the amount in a bid to secure her release, but tragically, the woman was killed.
The Police Command has vowed to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and assured residents that efforts to secure the area and prevent similar crimes are ongoing
