Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Directorate, have arrested a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, popularly known as “Easy-money,” for allegedly abusing the naira during his birthday celebration.
According to the Commission, Ikechukwu was apprehended following actionable intelligence from a viral video circulating on social media. In the footage, he was reportedly seen recording himself while mutilating naira notes in a hotel room during his birthday party — an act said to contravene Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
The EFCC disclosed that after receiving the intelligence, it carried out a preliminary investigation which led to the identification of the suspect and his residence.
He was subsequently arrested on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his home near the timber market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence, a preliminary investigation was conducted and the identity and address of the suspect were identified and he was arrested,” the Commission stated.
During the arrest, EFCC operatives recovered the sum of N81,700.00, believed to be part of the money allegedly mutilated in the viral video.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement added.
The EFCC reiterated its warning against the abuse and mutilation of the naira, stressing that offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
