Senate Calls for Removal of CAC Registrar-General Over Noncompliance

Rejoice Ewodage, February 26, 2026February 26, 2026

The Nigerian Senate has urged the removal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, following his repeated failure to appear before lawmakers despite multiple invitations.

The call came during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance when the President’s economic team appeared before the committee. Lawmakers expressed frustration at Magaji’s absence, noting that he had been invited to provide an account of the commission’s activities.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who raised the motion, said the Registrar-General had consistently failed to honour invitations from the finance committee. “Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa,” Kalu stated.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, also highlighted concerns over unresolved issues related to the reconciliation of the CAC’s revenues, noting that Magaji had repeatedly failed to address the matters.

Backing the motion, Senator Adams Oshiomhole proposed that the Senate consider withholding approval of the commission’s 2026 budget as a further step.

The motion, requesting that the President remove Magaji from office, was subsequently adopted by the Senate.
