President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted state governors to an interfaith breaking of the fast at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, as Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians journey through Lent.

Against the backdrop of the dual religious season, the President said the moment calls for leadership rooted in conscience rather than politics.

“In this sacred season for two of the major faiths in our country, we are reminded that beyond politics and policy, we are first a people of conscience,” he stated.

While commending governors for their outreach efforts during the holy month, Tinubu urged them to intensify support for vulnerable Nigerians and deepen engagement at the grassroots.

“To reach the young man who feels forgotten. To lift the woman who carries her family on tired shoulders. To touch the communities at the grassroots where hope sometimes flickers.”

Emphasising inclusivity, he added that development, compassion and opportunity must transcend religious, ethnic and social divides.

“Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status.”

Shifting to governance and reform, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the country, describing it as the foundation of national prosperity.

“Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace.”

Tinubu reaffirmed plans to establish state police as part of broader security reforms, saying the move is driven by practicality rather than politics.

“This is about empowering states with the tools to protect their people while strengthening our national framework,” he said, adding that reforms are necessary where existing structures are not delivering results.

Declaring his resolve to “rescue this country,” the President assured that campaign promises would not be postponed and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.

“Nigeria will be safer. Nigeria will be stronger. And together, we must commit to making it so.”
