A fire broke out on Monday at the Old Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, prompting an emergency response from aviation authorities and security agencies.
The Airport Police Command said it received a distress call at about 3:45 p.m. from the Aviation Security base station, reporting flames at the terminal, which is currently undergoing major renovation.
In response, the command activated emergency protocols and coordinated with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Rescue and Fire Fighting Services and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Shortly after, police also deployed a helicopter to provide aerial support and assist in the evacuation of workers or personnel who may have been trapped or at risk.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said officers secured the perimeter, managed crowd control and ensured the safety of personnel as firefighting and evacuation operations continued.
He added that no casualties had been recorded as of the time of the statement and that authorities were monitoring the situation to prevent secondary incidents.

Earlier, FAAN confirmed the incident in a public notice on its official X handle, stating that its firefighting teams were working to contain the blaze and that no loss of life had been reported.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) observed heavy smoke around the terminal as emergency operations continued.
Efforts to fully contain the fire were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
