The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that results of the ongoing Area Council elections will be transmitted electronically to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV).
Speaking while monitoring the elections across selected polling units in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Professor Amupitan said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is functioning efficiently and that the Commission remains committed to transparency in the conduct of the polls.
He emphasized that the electronic transmission of results will be carried out in line with existing electoral laws, assuring voters that their votes would count.
The INEC Chairman also commended electoral officials for the early deployment of materials and noted that the exercise has so far remained peaceful across the FCT.
According to him, the credibility of the FCT Area Council elections is crucial in strengthening public confidence in grassroots democracy, especially as the country prepares for the 2027 presidential and state elections.
