The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has begun tracking 64 executive and constituency projects valued at approximately N21.6 billion in Sokoto State. The initiative is part of Phase 8 of the ICPC Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking programme, currently ongoing in multiple states across the country.
Mr. Aminu Bala, the team leader, announced on Monday that the commission’s team will inspect projects across key sectors, including health, education, water supply, agriculture, special interventions, and electrification. The exercise is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper utilisation of public funds.
According to Bala, the team has already identified irregularities in several projects, particularly in Kalambaina and Gwuiwa communities in Wamakko Local Government Area, as well as Mabera and Mana in Sokoto South LGA. The anomalies range from incomplete work to questionable project execution practices.
The ICPC emphasised that tracking and verification of constituency and executive projects is a critical step in curbing corruption and ensuring that allocated resources translate into meaningful development for communities. Officials urged contractors and local authorities to cooperate fully with the investigative team.
