Kwankwaso’s Son Resigns As Kano Commissioner

David Egbede, January 27, 2026January 27, 2026

Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State governor and Kwankwasiyya movement leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Governor Abba Yusuf’s cabinet.

Kwankwaso announced his resignation Monday in a statement on his verified Facebook page, ending his membership in the Kano State Executive Council.

In the statement, he thanked Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as both rewarding and instructive.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said.

He also prayed for sustained government commitment to youth empowerment and sports development in the state. “As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come.”

Kwankwaso’s resignation is the latest in a growing list of exits of officials believed to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Leader following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
