Sokoto Senator Ibrahim Lamido Dumps APC, Set to Join ADC

David Egbede, April 26, 2026April 26, 2026

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deepening internal challenges within the party.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Isa Local Government Area, the lawmaker said his decision was not “taken lightly.”

He pointed to the “ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion and unfair party leadership style” in Sokoto State as reasons he could no longer remain in the party.

He further noted that “persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity that the party once stood for,” making it difficult for him to continue in good conscience.

Despite his exit, Lamido expressed appreciation for his time in the party, stating, “I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the party during my time as a member. I wish the party well in its efforts to overcome its present challenges and move forward in unity.”

Sources indicate that the senator is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
