Gunmen Invade Benue Community, Traditional Ruler, Family Members Killed

David Egbede, April 24, 2026

Suspected gunmen have attacked Olegabulu community in Agatu LGA of Benue State, killing a traditional ruler, his wife, their child, and several others in a late-night assault.

The incident has left the community in deep mourning, with at least one person reportedly injured.

Among the victims are Chief Momo Alexander Awodi, his wife Abigail, and their son Boniface, alongside other residents.

Early reports suggest the attack may be linked to a communal dispute rather than herdsmen activity, as tensions had reportedly existed between neighbouring communities.

Agatu LGA Chairman, Hon. Melvin Ejeh, described the incident as tragic and urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security agencies have been deployed and investigations are underway to bring those responsible to justice.
