Akor Adams visits sick mother in Morocco

Vanessa Dokotri, January 7, 2026January 7, 2026

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams was granted a brief compassionate leave from Nigeria’s camp in Fez, Morocco, on Tuesday to visit his mother, who is currently hospitalized.

The development came amid Nigeria’s impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where Adams has played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ attacking success. His mother reportedly fell ill shortly before Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 a match that showcased Adams at his best.

Despite the emotional strain, the Sevilla forward delivered an outstanding performance, scoring once and providing two assists to help propel Nigeria into the quarterfinals. After the match, Adams revealed that he had dedicated his goal to his mother, describing the moment as deeply personal and emotional.

Following approval from the team’s technical staff, Adams was allowed to briefly step away from camp to check on her condition. He returned to the team in under an hour, rejoining his teammates ahead of their scheduled recovery session a gesture that underscored both his professionalism and commitment to the national team.

Since making his senior debut for Nigeria in October 2025, Adams has quickly established himself as a key figure in the Super Eagles setup. In just eight appearances, the 25-year-old has recorded three goals and three assists, contributing directly to six goals and earning praise for his work rate, intelligence, and composure in the final third.

Head coach and teammates have rallied around the striker, offering support during what has been an emotionally challenging period. With Nigeria pushing for continental glory, Adams’ performances and resilience continue to embody the spirit of the Super Eagles combining quality on the pitch with strength of character off it.

As the tournament progresses, Nigeria will be hoping their in-form striker can continue to inspire, both for his country and for the loved ones he carries with him onto the field.
