APC Kicks off 2027 Nomination Form Sales April 25, Opts for Consensus and Direct Primaries

David Egbede, April 24, 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will commence the sale of nomination forms for the 2027 general elections on April 25.

The ruling party unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities on Monday, fixing the cost of nomination forms for presidential aspirants at N70 million, while expression of interest forms will go for N30 million.

Durosinmi Meseko, the party’s deputy national publicity secretary, disclosed this on Thursday following the 186th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC).

He said the details are contained in a revised timetable already submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to him, the sale of forms will run from April 25 to May 2, with submission closing on May 4.

Meseko added that screening for governorship and legislative aspirants is scheduled for May 6 to 8, while presidential hopefuls will be screened on May 9.

He further outlined that House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 15, followed by Senate primaries on May 18 and State Assembly primaries on May 20. Governorship primaries are slated for May 21, with the presidential primary set for May 23.

Dismissing claims that access to forms would be restricted, Meseko said all aspirants are free to obtain them, stressing that there are no limitations.

He also revealed that the party has adopted a hybrid system combining direct and consensus primaries, noting that consensus candidates must have the agreement of all aspirants; otherwise, the process will default to direct primaries.

On internal matters, Meseko said the NWC approved the conduct of congresses in Zamfara State, beginning April 28 at the ward, local government, and state levels. He added that updated membership registers, including new members, have been submitted to INEC, signaling the party’s readiness for the primaries.

Meanwhile, after meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Niger State Governor Umar Bago said the president has authorized governors to conduct primaries in line with the Electoral Act, using either direct or consensus methods.

Also speaking, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a transparent process, expressing confidence that the exercise would be free, fair, and strengthen party unity ahead of the elections.
