Group Urges National Unity Behind Tinubu’s Reforms, Warns Against Rising Political Distractions

Soliu Oyesiji, April 20, 2026

A pro-government group, the Disciples of Jagaban, has urged Nigerians to rally behind the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu, warning that growing political distractions could slow down the country’s development trajectory.

The group said national progress requires broad cooperation across political, ethnic, and religious divides, stressing that reforms currently being implemented by the administration demand patience and collective support.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, the group said recent political tensions risk shifting attention away from urgent national priorities.

Alawuje noted that while opposition is a legitimate part of democracy, it must be guided by responsibility and a genuine commitment to national growth.

He said the current administration inherited deep structural challenges requiring bold and sometimes difficult policy choices, adding that the impact of such reforms may take time to become visible.

According to him, sustainable development cannot be achieved without cooperation among all stakeholders.

“No government can succeed in isolation,” the group stated, insisting that national transformation is a shared responsibility.

The group also expressed concern over what it described as increasing political rhetoric from some opposition actors, including the African Democratic Congress, urging a shift toward issue-based engagement.

It argued that political competition should be driven by practical policy alternatives rather than criticism without solutions, adding that Nigerians deserve constructive engagement from all sides.

Alawuje further stressed the importance of accountability, transparency, and integrity in leadership, noting that public trust is earned through consistent performance and credibility.

He called on political actors and citizens alike to prioritize national interest, warning that deepening divisions could undermine ongoing efforts toward stability and economic recovery.
