The Nigeria Police Force has extradited a suspected fugitive, Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi, to the United Kingdom to face charges bordering on murder and drug trafficking.
Adebiyi’s transfer was carried out through the efforts of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, following a formal request from UK authorities over his alleged role in the 2018 killing of Joshua Boadu, as well as involvement in narcotics-related crimes.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect was initially arrested in January 2025. His extradition was later approved by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos in February 2026, paving the way for his eventual handover.
He was officially transferred to UK law enforcement operatives on April 14, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Speaking on the development, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said the move underscores Nigeria’s resolve to collaborate with international partners in tackling transnational crimes.
“We remain committed to ensuring that Nigeria does not serve as a sanctuary for individuals fleeing justice,” the police chief stated, adding that the Force would continue to strengthen global partnerships in law enforcement.
