Defectors won’t Dominate Party Leadership – APC Chairman Assures Members

David Egbede, April 15, 2026April 15, 2026

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has reassured longstanding party members that recent defectors will not be allowed to take control of leadership structures.

Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Yilwatda emphasized that while the party welcomes new entrants, it will maintain a balance that protects the interests of both legacy members and newcomers. He noted that the APC was built by its founding members and cannot be taken over by those who joined later.

He explained that the party is implementing a structured power-sharing arrangement to ensure inclusiveness across all groups.

This framework, he said, will cover gender representation, geopolitical balance, youth involvement, and inclusion of indigenous communities in the FCT.

Yilwatda also disclosed that a committee led by Zephaniah Jisalo has already carried out zoning arrangements for the FCT chapter, with no reported grievances so far.

He added that defectors seeking leadership roles must formally resign from their former parties and provide proof, while reaffirming that party rules on tenure limits will be strictly enforced.

According to him, inclusivity remains a core principle of the APC, stressing that the party must reflect Nigeria’s diverse composition at all levels.
