Gbajabiamila Hails Wike as Abuja Seals Landmark Hypercity–Carrefour Deal

Soliu Oyesiji, April 15, 2026April 15, 2026

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for creating an enabling environment that attracted a major retail partnership between Hypercity and Carrefour.

Gbajabiamila, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the franchise signing ceremony in Abuja, described the agreement as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

“This collaboration is a powerful statement of confidence in our nation’s economic direction,” he said.

He singled out Wike for his role in facilitating the deal, describing him as a “deep thinker” whose business-driven approach is transforming the capital city.

“This successful collaboration serves as a direct testament to Wike’s commitment to reshaping the economic and physical landscape of Abuja,” Gbajabiamila added.

He noted that while the partnership is being anchored in Abuja, it signals Nigeria’s growing appeal as an investment destination.

“Abuja is sowing the seed, but that seed will grow into a tree with branches across different cities in Nigeria,” he said, hinting at planned expansion to Lagos and other urban centres.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Hypercity, Sunny Chuwla, said the partnership would boost investment, create jobs and open up new opportunities for local suppliers.

“This initiative is a beginning, not a finish line. It is designed to empower local businesses and build a bridge between global standards and Nigerian opportunity,” he said.

Chuwla added that the collaboration would introduce modern retail experiences while strengthening the country’s economic landscape.

“By combining global operational excellence with local ambition, we aim to deliver quality products and a world-class shopping experience for Nigerian families,” he said.

He disclosed that expansion plans are already underway, including the rebranding of existing stores in Port Harcourt and the establishment of new outlets in Abuja and other major cities.
