The Presidency has responded sharply to recent criticisms by Rauf Aregbesola, dismissing his remarks against the administration of Bola Tinubu and questioning his record in public office.
In a reaction, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform of “desperate politicians” lacking a clear national vision. He accused Aregbesola of echoing opposition narratives and misrepresenting the government’s performance.
Onanuga criticised Aregbesola’s tenure as governor of Osun State, alleging that it was marked by hardship, including unpaid salaries and suffering among pensioners.
He also pointed to challenges during his time as Minister of Interior, citing difficulties in obtaining passports and incidents such as prison breaks.
Defending the current administration, Onanuga maintained that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is yielding results, highlighting improvements in economic indicators such as GDP growth, foreign reserves, and investor confidence.
He added that while reforms have had tough effects, the government has rolled out support measures, including cash transfers and assistance for small businesses.
The Presidency insisted that the administration remains committed to stabilising the economy and improving the welfare of Nigerians, rejecting claims that its policies are ineffective.
