Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the suspension of her bid for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, following the emergence of Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Monday, Obasanjo said her decision was influenced by the party’s endorsement of Adeola, expressing support for his candidacy.
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”
She also appreciated her supporters for their “unwavering trust” throughout her campaign.
Earlier, Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun announced Adeola as the party’s preferred candidate after consultations with party stakeholders, noting the move was aimed at maintaining unity and continuity within the APC.
Adeola, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations, previously represented Lagos West before shifting his political base to Ogun State.
