An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 31-year-old site engineer, Godwin Asekhamen, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman.
Chief Magistrate Omolara Kushanu did not take the plea of the defendant, and directed that he be kept in custody until April 8, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendant, a residence of B60 Road, Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos, is facing charges of rape and assault.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji told the court that the offences were committed on May 1, 2025, at Lekki.
He said the victim was invited by her friend to her residence, where she met the defendant watching a movie.
The prosecutor explained that when the victim’s friend stepped out to buy food, the defendant locked the door, assaulted and raped her.
Ademigbuji added that the defendant evaded arrest until the victim sighted him in Lekki and raised an alarm, leading to his apprehension.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 170 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
