Bala Mohammed has shared insights from his recent closed-door meeting with Peter Obi, highlighting discussions centered on Nigeria’s economic recovery and citizens’ welfare.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Bauchi, also addressed the country’s evolving political landscape and the urgent need to strengthen democratic institutions.

“Today, I received the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a chieftain of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, at the Government House in Bauchi. Our discussions centered on critical national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens,” he said.

Mohammed emphasized the value of dialogue among political leaders, noting that both sides agreed on prioritising national interest above party lines as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to take shape.

“We also took time to review the evolving political landscape and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen our democratic institutions,” he added.

Mohammed commended Obi for the visit, stressing the importance of dialogue among political actors in addressing national challenges.

“I commended him for the visit, as engagements of this nature foster mutual understanding and help drive practical, people-focused solutions,” he said.

He further revealed that both leaders agreed on the need for political stakeholders to prioritise national interest over partisan considerations.

“We jointly urged all stakeholders to rise above partisanship and place the national interest at the forefront of all decisions,” Mohammed stated.

The meeting comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
