Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Repel Multiple ISWAP Attacks, Recover Heavy Arms

David Egbede, March 2, 2026

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have thwarted a series of coordinated assaults by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on military formations in Borno State, killing several insurgents and seizing a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The attacks targeted Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram between the night of February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, confirmed that the troops successfully repelled the offensives.

According to the military, the attacks signal increasing desperation among terrorist groups under sustained pressure on their hideouts and supply routes.

Despite intense gunfire, the troops stood their ground, while reinforcements maneuvered through ambushes and improvised explosive device (IED) threats to push back the attackers.

After the confrontation, troops recovered the bodies of five insurgents and confiscated three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, three RPG bombs, and substantial quantities of 7.62mm ammunition. Bloodstains at the scene indicated that more of the fleeing attackers may have sustained injuries.
