Abia Lawmaker Joins Labour Party, Pays Courtesy Visit to Governor Otti

David Egbede, March 4, 2026March 4, 2026

Mascot Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally defected to the Labour Party.

The move comes four days after announcing his resignation from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Ikwechegh, who stepped down from APGA last week alongside several party executives in Aba, confirmed to journalists on Tuesday that he is now a member of the Labour Party.

Moments after declaring for the Labour Party, the federal legislator paid a visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. While the details of the closed-door meeting he held with the Governor were not immediately disclosed, political analysts believe the development has strengthened the Labour Party’s structure in Aba and across Abia State.
