The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project, describing the development as a major milestone in the state’s transportation drive.
In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the governor expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and people of Lagos State for the federal approval.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project,” he wrote.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the project represents a significant step forward in addressing the state’s growing transportation needs. According to him, the Green Line will span approximately 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with about 17 stations strategically located in key areas such as Victoria Island, Ajah and the Lekki corridor.
He added that the rail system is expected to serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception, with capacity projected to rise to about one million passengers over time.
The governor further explained that the line would be capable of transporting up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, a development he said would significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on Lagos’ congested road network.
Emphasising the broader impact of the project, Sanwo-Olu stated that it reflects the administration’s commitment to improving mobility, boosting economic growth and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
He also acknowledged the continued support of the Federal Government, reaffirming the state’s commitment to delivering a rail system that meets the needs of Lagosians.
