Police Foil Planned Attack in Oyo, Neutralise Two Suspected Bandits

Happiness Udisifan, February 16, 2026

The Oyo State Police Command has thwarted a planned attack in Atisbo Local Government Area of the state, killing two suspected bandits during a coordinated security operation. The intervention followed intelligence indicating that armed men had positioned themselves near a farm settlement with plans to strike a nearby community.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the breakthrough was made possible by credible information from a concerned resident who alerted authorities to the presence of about 10 armed suspects hiding in the area. Security operatives swiftly mobilised to the location, preventing what officials described as a potentially deadly assault.

Police said the suspects had intended to carry out the attack under the cover of darkness, but timely action by officers disrupted their plans. The command added that operations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group and to ensure the safety of surrounding communities across Oyo State.

The development comes amid heightened security concerns following the recent abduction of a 12-year-old student in Ibadan. Eyewitnesses reported that the kidnappers, masked and armed, fired sporadically to scare residents before fleeing the scene without vehicle registration plates.

Authorities have reassured residents that intensified patrols, surveillance, and intelligence driven operations are underway to combat criminal activities, urging the public to continue providing timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
