PDP Crisis: Appeal Court Ruling Will Determine My Next Move – Gov Lawal

David Egbede, March 3, 2026March 3, 2026

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, said on Tuesday that his next political step will depend on the judgment of the Court of Appeal regarding the leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, Lawal stated that the court’s decision on the legitimacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s leadership and the validity of the party’s Ibadan convention would influence whether he remains in the party or considers other options.

A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Public Enlightenment and Communication, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, noted that the meeting was attended by party stakeholders from all 14 local government areas of the state.

Kaura explained that the gathering was convened in response to guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The guidelines mandate political parties to conclude their congresses at least 300 days before the polls.

“The guidelines indicate that by April or May, all party congresses must be concluded. There are litigations surrounding the PDP at the national level. If we remain without exploring options, we may face uncertainty and others may take the credit,” Kaura said.

“If the judgment is not in our favour, opinions are divided. Some prefer the APC; others the ADC, while some advocate forming a new party,” he said

Lawal emphasized the need for clarity on the party’s leadership structure, noting that the court’s ruling would significantly influence his political direction
