The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the killing of Mali’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Lt-Gen. Sadio Camara, following terrorist attacks in the Republic of Mali on April 25.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described the incident as a tragic loss and extended Nigeria’s condolences to the government and people of Mali.

He said Nigeria stood in solidarity with the West African nation during what he described as a difficult moment in its national history.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with Mali and reaffirms the enduring ties of brotherhood, shared destiny, and collective resilience that define the African spirit,” Ebienfa said.

The Federal Government also condemned recent terrorist attacks in Mali that reportedly resulted in further loss of lives and property, describing them as “cowardly acts” that threaten regional stability.

“Such acts not only threaten national stability but also undermine the shared values of peace, dignity, and coexistence upon which our societies are built,” the statement read.

Ebienfa stressed that terrorism remains a common threat across West Africa and requires coordinated regional and international action to address.

“Terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, remains a common adversary that demands unified resolve, sustained cooperation and reaffirmation of our shared humanity to tackle,” he said.

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Mali in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while working with regional and international partners to restore lasting peace and security.

The government also reiterated its broader commitment to promoting stability across the Sahel and West African sub-region, calling for stronger solidarity among nations in confronting shared security challenges.

“Nigeria renews its call for strengthened solidarity among nations, guided by the principles of mutual respect, collective security, and recognition that the peace of one is inseparable from the peace of all,” Ebienfa added.
