The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, moving it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, announced the extension in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the statutory deadline for filing annual individual tax returns remains March 31 each year.
According to Subair, the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns in compliance with tax regulations.
He urged individuals to prioritize timely filing of their annual income tax returns, emphasizing that tax compliance should be treated as a routine personal responsibility.
Subair also reiterated that electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns, as manual filing has been completely phased out.
He advised taxpayers to submit their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal, describing the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible round the clock.
The LIRS chairman further urged individuals to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly captured during the filing process to avoid delays or errors in processing.
