The family of a kidnapped University of Jos student, John Arum Azi, has confirmed his release after spending 10 days in captivity following ransom negotiations with his abductors.
Azi, a student of early childhood education at the University of Jos, was abducted while travelling from Jos in Plateau State to Zaria in Kaduna State.
His abduction gained public attention after a video surfaced online showing him being assaulted by his captors, who initially demanded ₦30 million and issued threats against his life.
After days of negotiations, the ransom was reduced to ₦6 million, which was reportedly raised through contributions from concerned individuals.
However, sources said the abductors later demanded an additional ₦4 million after receiving the initial payment, further prolonging the tense negotiations.
His release was eventually confirmed on Wednesday in a video shared by the family on social media, showing Azi reunited with relatives.
The family expressed relief over his safe return, even as concerns continue over rising cases of abductions targeting travellers and students across parts of the country.
