The Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has announced his defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the former Bayelsa State governor said his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) followed what he described as an irreconcilable crisis within the party, despite several interventions by prominent leaders.
Dickson explained that the move is aimed at strengthening his ability to represent the interests of his constituents, deepen democracy, and prevent Nigeria from drifting into what he called a one-party state.
The senator noted that his decision to join the NDC comes after the party’s successful registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
