Israel has claimed responsibility for the killing of Ali Larijani, Iran’s security chief, in a targeted military strike, further heightening tensions between the two countries.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated that the Iranian official had been “eliminated,” adding that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the military to continue pursuing members of Iran’s leadership.
However, Iranian authorities have yet to officially confirm Larijani’s death. State media said an update on his condition would be provided soon.
According to Israeli media reports, Larijani and his son were targeted in an attack on a hideout apartment. The incident comes only days after he was seen taking part in Quds Day rallies last Friday.
The broader Middle East remains tense, with reports of drones and rockets being launched at the United States embassy in Baghdad—the second such attack since the recent escalation.
Amid rising security concerns, the United Arab Emirates briefly closed its airspace due to threats from Iranian missiles and drones but has since reopened it.
