Group Urges APC to Zone Ogun West Senatorial Ticket to Imeko-Afon

Soliu Oyesiji, April 30, 2026

A political group in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State, the Ketu Intelligentsia Forum (KIF), has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its 2027 senatorial ticket in the district to the Imeko-Afon axis.

The group made the demand in an open letter addressed to the APC State Working Committee and party elders, citing the need for equity, inclusiveness, and sustained electoral success in Ogun West.

KIF commended the party leadership for what it described as the peaceful conduct of the consensus process that produced Solomon Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate. It also acknowledged the role of Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, noting that his decision to step aside in the interest of party unity reflected political maturity and statesmanship.

The letter, dated April 28, 2026, and signed by the forum’s Chairman, Ayilara Ayinla Muraina, alongside Secretary-General AbdLateef Olusoji Emilandu and Director of Strategy and Mobilisation Prince Sola Bamigbade, was made available to journalists in Abeokuta.

In the correspondence, the group argued that Isiaka’s political influence and grassroots appeal should be recognised with a role commensurate with his standing and ability to mobilise voters across the district.

Beyond individual considerations, KIF highlighted what it described as a long-standing imbalance in political representation, noting that the Imeko-Afon axis has yet to produce a senator since the creation of Ogun State.

The forum maintained that zoning the ticket to the area would address historical marginalisation while strengthening the APC’s electoral base in Ogun West.

“If the party yields to our call for equity by producing its senatorial candidate from the Imeko-Afon axis, we guarantee to deliver a unified block vote, even across all elections,” the group stated.

“This mandate will come not just from Imeko-Afon, but from the Ketu people across the five local governments of Ogun West and our significant population residing outside the district.”

The group urged party leaders to prioritise long-term political strength over short-term calculations.

“We trust the leadership to look beyond raw registration numbers and see where the true, reliable strength of Ogun West lies,” the letter added.

“Correcting the historical marginalisation is the only way to turn the 2023 success into a permanent stronghold for the party.”

KIF expressed optimism that the APC leadership would consider its appeal in the interest of unity, fairness, and electoral consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
