Gov. Yusuf set to rejoin APC in Kano

David Egbede, January 26, 2026January 26, 2026

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, just days after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The development was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Yusuf, who initially joined the APC in 2014 as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat before stepping down for then-leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, cited governance realities, national cohesion, and development as key factors influencing his return to the party.

The statement quoted the governor saying that rejoining the ruling party would enhance collaboration with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen security coordination, and improve service delivery across Kano State.

He also expressed confidence that the move would consolidate political stability and unity in the state.

Yusuf will formally register as an APC member in Kano alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen.

He is also expected to officially launch the APC electronic registration (e-registration) exercise during the event.
