Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has raised concern over the removal of railway sleepers along the Alkaleri–Tafawa Balewa corridor, describing the development as troubling and capable of undermining the state’s economic activities.
The governor reportedly noticed contractors dismantling parts of the rail infrastructure while on a condolence visit to Alkaleri Local Government Area on Saturday.
Alarmed by the situation, he called for immediate intervention by relevant authorities and security agencies to clarify the basis for the operation.
Mohammed questioned the removal of such critical national assets without proper consultation, stressing that infrastructure of that magnitude should not be tampered with without the knowledge of the state government.
He directed his Chief of Staff to formally write to the Federal Ministry of Transport Federal Ministry of Transport seeking clarification on the matter.
The governor also expressed concern that the action could worsen transportation challenges and negatively affect economic activities in communities relying on the rail corridor.
He further urged stronger coordination between federal and state authorities on decisions involving key infrastructure with direct impact on livelihoods.
