Soliu Oyesiji, April 26, 2026April 26, 2026

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has declared support for the governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat.

Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, gave the endorsement while responding to Hamzat’s consultation visit, expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the state.

He described Hamzat as a competent and honourable leader, noting that his decision to consult widely demonstrated humility and respect for due process.

“Dr. Hamzat, you’re a man of honour, and it shows by not taking things for granted,” Gbajabiamila said, adding that he had no hesitation in publicly backing the deputy governor’s bid.

He assured Hamzat of strong political support, declaring that his Surulere constituency stood firmly behind him.

“My constituency, Surulere, is for you and Lagos is for you,” he said.

Earlier, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Musiliu Obanikoro, briefed Gbajabiamila on the progress of consultations, stating that the level of endorsement for Hamzat had been “overwhelming.”

The delegation included key political figures such as the GAC Secretary, Alhaji Muti Are; former senator Ganiyu Solomon; Bode Oyedele; Adekunle Olayinka; and Hakeem Shittu.

Others in the entourage were Saheed Kekereekun, Jebe, and Rasaq Ajala, among others.

Hamzat’s consultations are part of ongoing political alignments ahead of the next governorship election in Lagos State.
