Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying the country is on a stable development path under the current administration.
Fubara made the declaration on Thursday in Port Harcourt while declaring open a meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council, which brought together monarchs from the 17 southern states to deliberate on issues of unity, security, and economic growth.
According to the governor, continuity in leadership is essential to sustaining ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects across the country.
He said, “The nation is in capable hands. It is not ideal to change the goalpost in the middle of the game. Supporting continuity will help consolidate the progress being made.”
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is already driving key reforms aimed at economic recovery and infrastructure expansion, including major coastal road projects.
Fubara also called on stakeholders in the southern region to remain united and work collectively toward shared developmental goals, stressing that regional cohesion is critical to national stability.
“The South must remain united if we are to achieve sustainable development,” he added.
The governor further described Rivers State as peaceful and capable of hosting major national engagements, pointing to the successful gathering of traditional rulers as evidence of stability in the state.
The meeting was attended by monarchs from across southern Nigeria, including the chairman of the council and Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who said the forum was convened to strengthen unity, promote peace, and deepen cooperation among communities.
Ogunwusi noted that the council represents Nigeria’s cultural diversity, with over 400 dialects spoken across the southern region, describing the meeting as a symbol of “unity in diversity.”
He explained that the Port Harcourt session is the fourth in a series of engagements, following previous meetings in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states.
“The council provides a platform for traditional rulers to reflect on shared values and address common challenges affecting our people,” the monarch said.
He added that discussions would also focus on security concerns and economic development, while emphasizing the importance of supporting government efforts at all levels.
According to him, participation in the council is voluntary but remains crucial for strengthening regional stability and contributing to national progress.
