Former Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been killed in an alleged joint Israeli–US airstrike, according to Iran’s semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) report on Sunday.

It was reported that the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, killing him along with several members of his security detail.

International media sources suggested the strike likely occurred late Saturday, though independent confirmation has not been immediately available.

Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013. Prior to his presidency, he held key positions including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.

Following the completion of his two presidential terms, he was appointed by then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a 48-member advisory body that advises the Office of the Supreme Leader and mediates disputes within Iran’s governing institutions.
