FG Launches National Single Window to Streamline Trade, Reduce Costs

The Federal Government has launched the National Single Window (NSW), a digital trade platform aimed at reducing the cost of doing business, improving efficiency, and modernising Nigeria’s import and export processes.

The initiative was unveiled in Lagos on Tuesday by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as part of ongoing economic reforms designed to strengthen trade and enhance competitiveness.

According to Edun, the National Single Window will integrate multiple government agencies into a unified digital system, allowing businesses to process trade documentation and approvals through a single platform, thereby reducing delays and administrative bottlenecks.

“This is a decisive shift from complexity to coordination,” the minister said. “It will ease trade, improve competitiveness, and support economic growth.”

The minister explained that the platform is expected to enhance transparency in government operations, improve inter-agency coordination, and strengthen revenue collection, while also helping businesses access markets faster and at lower cost.

He added that the success of the digital system will depend largely on ongoing improvements in port infrastructure, noting that physical upgrades must complement the technology to achieve meaningful economic impact.

The National Single Window, he said, forms part of the federal government’s broader economic reform agenda aimed at building a more competitive and investment-friendly economy.

“This is about creating an economy that works faster, more efficiently, and in the interest of all Nigerians,” Edun added.

The initiative is expected to simplify trade procedures, reduce bureaucracy at ports, and position Nigeria as a more attractive destination for investment and international commerce.
