The Federal Government has fulfilled part of the rewards promised to Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, with the presentation of housing documents and national honours to members of the team in Lyon, France.
The presentation was carried out by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, alongside the Director-General of the commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade on Monday.
The development comes days after government officials assured the players that the incentives announced by Bola Ahmed Tinubu would soon be delivered.
Speaking earlier in France on Sunday, Olopade had told the team that their national honours, housing documents, and the $100,000 cash reward promised by the President were already being processed and would be presented to them shortly.
He praised the players for their achievements and for continuing to make Nigeria proud on the international stage, adding that the Federal Government remained committed to rewarding excellence in sports.
The fulfilment of the pledge follows anticipation among players and supporters over the incentives announced by the President after the team’s recent successes in international competitions.
D’Tigress, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful women’s basketball teams, has consistently represented Nigeria at global tournaments and continues to attract national recognition for its performances.
