The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a ban on the importation of vehicles without proper certification, tightening regulations in the country’s automotive sector.
The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, John Enoh, announced the directive on Tuesday at an event organised by the National Automotive Design and Development Council.
He explained that the move is part of a broader policy framework under the Standard Organisation of Nigeria–NADDC Vehicle Conformity Assessment Programme.
According to Enoh, the policy enforces a strict “no certification, no entry” rule for all vehicles—both new and used—being imported into the country.
Under the new guidelines, all vehicles must secure pre-shipment certification before they can be processed for entry into Nigeria.
He emphasised that the directive is fully adopted and not experimental, adding that it takes immediate effect.
“No vehicle or automotive product shall be imported, cleared, registered, or licensed without valid certification,” he stated.
Enoh further warned that any vehicle that fails to meet the certification requirement will be denied clearance and could face seizure or other sanctions in line with existing laws.
